For many years Andrew painted and then refocused on scupture and craft. Painting works now are either just for fun or integrated into sculptures and frames. An emerging theme is to develop an interesting 2D design and then augment it with 3D detail by raising or cutting into the design.
This is a frame upgrade of an old and basic mirror. The colours are acrylic paint and the metal is nickel silver ultra-thin plate, cut to shape and glued on.
An attempt to mix colours and polished metal, whilst keeping the piece light in look and weight.
Sort of worked....
In use at home.
A throwback to my Australian aboriginal / First Nations inspired dot art of the 1980s. The pattern is inspired by geological folds and white quartz veins. The frame is clad in heat treated copper, linking to the mineral theme.
An experiment in acrylic, 90cm by 140cm. Lots of taping and retouching to get the lines sharp. Design to fit in our entry stairwell and visually link to the steps.
Acrylic paint dries very quickly, so one noted challenge is blending colours and grading from one colour to another.
Decided to add some artwork to a repaint of an old filing cabinet, which we still use.
The animals in order from top to bottom are a wallaby, an echidna, a goanna and a platypus.
